Dr. Suzan Walters, PhD is an experienced researcher with
expertise in qualitative and mixed-methods applied
research, community engagement, organizational
assessments, harm reduction and HIV and overdose
prevention. Dr. Suzan Walters holds a Ph.D. in Sociology
from Stony Brook University and has completed two
interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellowships, one at the University
of Southern California and the other at New York University.
Dr. Walters is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology in the Department of Population Health and the Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine, an investigator at the Center for Drug Use and HIV/HCV Research at New York University, a Research Scholar at Brown University, and a Visiting Professor at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at the University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Walters’ research focuses on the social and structural drivers of health, how intersectional stigma processes impact health outcomes, and how to build community resilience. She in the Principal Investigator of grants funded by the National Institutes of Health, The Miriam Hospital, University of California San Francisco, and New York University.

After consulting with community and government organizations for the past decade she established Walters Consulting to bridge her skills and expertise to her local community. Walters Consulting seeks to create an equitable space for people to work and collaborate on creating positive social change.
